This event is for current third, fourth and fifth year students from mechanical, mechatronics, materials, aerospace and mining engineering who are interested in:

  • finding out more about the School's areas of research excellence;
  • pursuing a higher degree by research (PhD or MPhil);
  • exploring options for their final year thesis;
  • learning about the value and versatility that a higher degree by research presents.

Event overview

The event will start with a brief introduction from Dr Christopher Leonardi, after which we will hear from three speakers:

  • Dr Carolyn Jacobs (Lecturer – UQ School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering)
  • Mr Andrew Job (CEO and Founder of plotlogic. PhD student – UQ School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering)
  • Mr Kyriakos Tapinou (PhD Student – UQ School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering)

This will be followed by a brief presentation of information specific to thesis enrolment and HDR application. A Q&A panel session with all speakers will then wrap up the central event.

You will then have the opportunity to join a number of focused breakout sessions, where you can meet with the academics from the School’s various Research Centres, learn about their work and opportunities, and ask questions.
