Centre Capabilities, Equipment and Facilities

Allows to perform a wide range of fundamental experiments involving electrochemical reactions. Practical applications of such experiments include the production of hydrogen by electrolysis and examining charge and mass transport in batteries.  

Specifically designed to conduct experiments on using a mixture of gaseous and diesel fuels in internal combustion engines. The facility involves an engine, an energy dissipator, a cooler and various measuring devices. 

Possesses an extensive set of modern equipment that allows us to conduct a wide range of experiments examining hydrogen embrittlement and corrosions of various steels.    

Located in (Long Pocket and Pinjarra Hills, Chem Engineering) is designed to conduct a wide range of thermal plasma experiments using DC arc.  

(NDDCT) Test Facility was constructed in 2014 to provide a proof-of-concept for NDDCTs suitable for small, remote power stations and demonstrate the effectiveness of inlet spray-cooling techniques in real-world conditions. 

Laboratory involves a power cycle testing cabinet, which was built to test different power cycles.  This facility is eminently suitable to be used to work with flammable liquids.

Equipped with test sections ranging from 300 mm by 300 mm up to 1750 mm by 1750 mm. Due to the design of the wind tunnel, it is also suitable for spray testing at pressures up to 20 MPa. 

Located at Room 101, Building 45, UQ St Lucia Campus, is a smaller facility that is nonetheless suitable for a wide range of smaller models, including heater exchanger bundle tests that have been successfully undertaken previously. With a 450 by 450 mm test section, the wind tunnel can deliver a maximum wind speed of over 40 m/s. 

Involves a power cycle testing cabinet, which was built to test different power cycles.  This facility is eminently suitable to be used to work with flammable liquids. 

This is used for flow visualization and to measure the velocity, particle concentration, and temperature distribution in a desired field of view. The four-camera set-up enables a 3D or tomographic measurement of the flow field with a proper update.

This isused for measurements of flow properties at specific locations. The LDA system measures the flow velocity and direction at a specific point.

This is used to simultaneously measure the size, velocity, and concentration of water droplets during spray cooling.
