Researcher biography

Da Chen is a researcher in structural & mechanical engineering with a special focus on innovative structural materials and advanced modelling techniques. Mentored by world-renowned experts (Prof. S. Kitipornchai & Prof. Jie Yang), he obtained his PhD degree from the University of Queensland in 2018 and has since been working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (advisors: Prof. Chien Ming Wang & Prof. Paul Meehan). His research excellence is evidenced by 5 ESI Highly Cited Papers (top performing 1%), 21 peer-reviewed papers with over 1100 citations (Web of Science), and Field-Weighted Citation Impact as 8.78. His PhD study opened a new field of lightweight composite structural forms – functionally graded porous structures, of which the constitutive models he proposed have been widely acknowledged and adopted. He also has extended his expertise across vibration absorbers, offshore structures, wheel/rail interactions, and wind-resistant structures. With more than 9 years' research (since MScEng), 5 years' teaching and professional management experience, Da Chen is shaping his career as a leading young academic.
